Public holiday planning for international teams

Practical ways to account for national and regional days off across a distributed organisation.

Distributed teams can be affected by several holiday calendars at once. A shared list makes absences easier to anticipate, but regional differences still matter.

Record location, not nationality

The relevant calendar is usually the employee's working location. Store the country and region needed for scheduling without making assumptions about personal beliefs.

Plan critical dates early

Review holidays before launches, payroll deadlines and support rotations. Leave room for adjacent vacation days, which may have a larger operational effect than the holiday itself.
