Holiday guide

How regional public holidays work

Why two people in the same country may have different holiday calendars depending on their state, province or city.

National governments are not always the only authorities that establish holidays. States, provinces, cantons, autonomous communities and municipalities may recognise additional dates.

Regional identity

Local calendars often reflect patron saints, historic events or constitutional anniversaries. A holiday in one city may be an ordinary working day elsewhere.

Choose the narrowest useful area

For accurate planning, select the region where you will actually work or travel. Nationwide entries still apply alongside the selected local dates.
